LAWRENCEVILLE — Lawrenceville’s celebrated trolley tours are set to begin again next month as a means to showcase the historic core of Gwinnett’s county seat.

Part of a 13-week stimulus plan beginning April 4 to draw people to downtown Lawrenceville on Sundays, local business owners, churches, realtors and homeowners are offering tours aboard two open air trolleys.

If you go

• What: Lawrenceville Community Trolley Tours

• When: Begins hourly at 1 p.m. Sundays, April 4 through June 27

• Where: Tours depart near the front entrance of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, 185 Crogan St., Lawrenceville

• Cost: Free

• For more information: E-mail Rodney@StarTeamAtlanta.com

Highlights will include historical rundowns of Lawrenceville’s square, parks and businesses. The free tours will start at 1 p.m. and run every hour until 5 p.m.

The tour route will adhere to areas within the city limits of Lawrenceville, said Rodney Camren, a local realtor who coordinates the tours.

“This is a positive investment in Lawrenceville,” Camren said. “We’re putting this together to be proactive in this economy, and not only survive this economic downturn, but thrive in it.”

During tours, various downtown business owners board the trolley to tell passengers about their businesses. Goody bags, including gift certificates for products and services at local businesses, are distributed throughout the tour.

Passengers disembark the trolley to visit a few homes for sale in Lawrenceville.

Trolley tours are free and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Passengers can board the trolley near the front entrance of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse.

Camren said plans call for special events on the downtown square that will coincide with tours.
