STONE MOUNTAIN — Stone Mountain streets will get a facelift, beginning next week.

Officials with Main Street Stone Mountain are hosting a groundbreaking at 1 p.m. Saturday for the first phase of a streetscape project in Stone Mountain Village.

A transportation economic assistance grant will allow the facelift, which has been in the works for four years.

The first phase will improve Main Street from Manor Drive to the Health Nut, giving a more pedestrian-friendly feel to the Village.

A press release said the project includes wider sidewalks, landscaping and space for restaurants to allow outdoor dining.

As part of the improvements, the association has been collecting sponsorships on hardscape improvements such as bricks, benches, trees and light poles.
