NORCROSS — Mayor Bucky Johnson was awarded earlier this month with the Certificate of Recognition from the Georgia Municipal Association, at the organization’s Mayors’ Day Conference in Atlanta.
“This is an outstanding achievement,” GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon said. “We commend Mayor Johnson for this accomplishment and for the dedication he’s shows in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official.”
To receive the award, an elected official must complete a minimum of 42 units of credit in a training program offered with the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute. On issues such as executive formalities, Downtown Development Authority or legal issues, the training program consists of a series of 24 six-unit courses.
“This program is a great way to learn what other cities do and what works best,” said Johnson, who is serving his second term as mayor.
